GMIS

Dear Members:

As I move into the position of Connecticut’s GMIS president, I am looking back on the last five years of GMIS and wonder how I can do as good of a job as the past presidents. A lot has been accomplished since I have been on the GMIS Board but I think all of the members and board want to take it further. I have a few goals that I would like to see happen and figured I would share them with you here.

1) Increase membership by launching a “Talk to your Neighbor” program. This program will tap into our best resource, you. We will be sending out a membership list in the next few months. Take a look at the list and see if your neighboring towns are on the list. If they aren’t, talk to them about joining.

2) Provide more educational opportunities for members. I would like to see more educational opportunities offered to our members. The board and I will be working with educational vendors so that we can negotiate a reduced training rate for our members as well as integrating training into our meetings.

3) Solicit more input from our members on what presentations should be made at our meetings. The board wants to hear what topics you are dealing with and what you want to hear about.

4) Continue on with the shared application collaboration project. I would love to see everyone have access to custom applications that make our IT life easier and save money in our ever dwindling budgets.

5) Update our website, stationary and general correspondence with the new GMIS logos and taglines

6) Finally update our Bylaws. I think our Bylaws were written in the age of punch cards. (Don’t even pretend you don’t know what punch cards are!)

The Board members and I welcome your participation in all of our programs. Please contact us if you have comments or suggestions on how to make GMIS a better organization.

The CT-GMIS Board is as follows:

President, David Richards, Town of Hamden
1st Vice President, Paul Boutot, Town of Newington
2nd Vice President, Jack McCoy, Town of Manchester
3rd Vice President, George Curtis, City of New Britain
Treasurer, Scott Smith, City of Bristol
Secretary, Scott Roberts, Town of S. Windsor
Ex Officio (Outgoing President) Jean Lasczak, City of Milford

We will be setting our schedule for next year at our next board meeting in August and will update them here. Until then, have a great summer.

David Richards
Connecticut GMIS President
